The Water Maiden

Released

In Lluabraight by silver streams Where moonlight walks in quiet dreams, A maiden wandered forest wide Where secret river spirits hide. Half-elven born of mortal line Yet touched by waters old and fine, The rivers sang where she would stray And carried all her cares away. Run river run, oh carry me Through forest shade to the endless sea, Run river run, wild and free Sing the ancient melody. But when the rivers turn to sand And dark winds sweep across the land, The wandering heart must fade away Like silver mist at break of day. But from the ash of Markazor A shadow walked the world of war, The Gorgon crowned in iron hate Whose gaze could turn all life to fate. He felt her magic in the streams A living power from ancient dreams, And through the valleys fierce he came To claim the river maiden’s name. Run river run, oh carry me Through forest shade to the endless sea, Run river run, wild and free Sing the ancient melody. But when the rivers turn to sand And dark winds sweep across the land, The wandering heart must fade away Like silver mist at break of day. Across the burning hills she fled Where silent volcano mountains bled, No river ran… no waters flowed… Only dust where rivers go. So in despair beneath the sky She turned to rain… and slowly died. Run river run, remember me Where silver waters meet the sea, Run river run, mourn for me Sing the fading melody. For when the rivers cease to flow No wandering heart can find its home, And sorrow falls like silent rain Across the lost and empty plain. Some say beneath the mountain stone A hidden well still sings alone.
